Fit for a King - and for You
King William is a neighborhood that dates back to the mid-1800s when German immigrants started to move in and build homes. (They loved King Wilhelm I of Prussia, hence the name.) Now a Cultural Arts District recognized by the Texas Commission on the Arts, King William is the crown jewel of Southtown. Stroll by the beautiful homes, and even drop into one that's been converted into a museum. Villa Finale is an 1867 Italianate home that was lovingly restored by preservationist Walter Mathis, a ninth-generation Texan, and filled with his collection of fine and decorative art. The gardens are free to tour and are considered a classic example of Southern landscape design.
